You can use the following guidelines to evaluate all resources - not just internet ones.
Go to Knowing what's what and what's not, the 5 w's (and 1 H) of cyberspace
http://www.media-awareness.ca/eng/webaware/tipsheets/w5.htm
Summary of the key points
Another excellent site with a quick checklist is
- Who is the source of the information?
- What are you getting?
- When was the site created?
- Where is the site hosted?
- Why are you on the internet?
- How can you tell what's what?

Other methods of checking the authenticity of online information
- Find out who links to the web site - this can offer insights into its quality.
- in a search engine put "link:" in front of the address and see what comes up.
- Find out about an author of a web page - do an author search in quotation marks in a search engine "Dianne KcKenzie"
- Find out about the domain registration - do a domain registration search through http://www.whois.net
- Identify the host domain - take the URL back to the first slash and see where it takes you.
